This entirely new approach to Leadership Development is a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the impact of personal leadership style and approach, to discuss and debate issues among peers from across the country and to stimulate aspirations for communities. The ambitious programme was established to build on the leadership capacity of the local government sector and ensure great outcomes for local people.
The nine-day development initiative intended to give leaders the opportunity to shift their thinking on leadership in order to transform their communities for the better, is split into three blocks with the following aims and themes:
- New insights into the leadership challenge
- Explore the impact of a participant’s personal leadership approaches
- The highest level interest with key players working on the major issues of the day and scenarios of the future (a local government Davos)
- Deeper understanding of the connection between leadership and success of a council
- Raise individuals’ self-awareness and emotional intelligence to enable better organisational performance
- Exposure to some of the best thinking and research about leadership, and to leaders in other sectors and other countries and their challenges
- The leadership challenges of the sector
- Leadership of place
- The nature of the role of local authorities
- Partnership working and inter-agency collaboration: influence beyond authority
- Active citizenship and engaging with communities
- The leadership of major change: beyond four stars
- Building a supportive leadership community
