Leadership of place

As local government moves from a service delivery model towards leadership of place, it necessarily looks beyond its boundaries to work in partnership with other organisations in the public, private and third sectors.

At the core of this change is a renewed focus on working with and for residents. The Leadership Centre and its team of skilled advisers supports with places to explore new ways of working together for the benefit of local people.

Local leadership programmes

The Leadership Centre has led a number of large-scale change programmes with local authorities and other organisations. These important, pioneering programmes in Cumbria, Norfolk and Suffolk have paved the way for the the Total Place programme now being rolled out in 13 pilots across England. The Leadership Centre also provides space through a range of facilitated events for groups of localities and partners to come together and explore common factors that affect them, with a view to creating a manifesto for policy change. These have included a variety of common themes such as politics, or geographical similarities for example the work on the State of the Suburbs or the current Coastal Towns project.
